Enhancing the Relationship with Greenery in Delft

Municipality of Delft - TU Delft 2019

This was a project I did for the graduation of my bachelor Industrial Design Engineering at the TU Delft. The municipality of Delft (‘Gemeente Delft’) provided a challenge to accomplish better-valued greenery among youngsters in the city of Delft through design. My direction of interest was to break the bubble of virtual isolation that youngsters these days developed by constantly looking at their phones, even outside. After a lot of qualitative & observational research at a specific park in Delft, ‘Wilhelminapark’, the problem, needs and desires became clearer. Taking into account as many insights of different stakeholders as possible, I designed a root-inspired “bench” that could be placed at several locations in the park - Parksight.

The elaborated design is one of a series of modules that all have a different character. This module is called ‘Music me’, which allows users to acoustically amplify their music from their phone while keeping them off this device. The design also takes into account the nature-historical restrictions and romantic style of the park. Additionally, I made an animation that you can check below.
